The Hub & Spoke Model

Make-A-Wish India follows the hub & spoke model. The hub is the main chapter location with an office. The spoke is an expanded location where we to reach children in the smaller communities. Program staff from the closest hub location monitor the spoke program on a frequent basis. Currently we have 11 chapters reaching out collectively to beneficiaries across remote areas of the country.

Make-A-Wish India - Mumbai Chapter

Make-A-Wish India's oldest chapter is located in the city of Mumbai. It granted its first wish, that of a doll and kitchen set, at the historic Nanavati hospital, which would be the first of thousands of wishes to come. Every year, the Mumbai chapter grants around 3000 wishes, of which the overwhelming majority are To Have wishes. A look into the chapter’s books shows the most coveted items being toys and battery-operated vehicles for children, and gadgets for teenagers. They also have some memorable To Meet wishes. In one case, a terminally ill child wished to meet Shah Rukh Khan, and after meeting him he successfully overcame his illness. The heart of this chapter is a strong community of 25+ volunteers across various ages and backgrounds, some of whom have stayed with the chapter for almost three decades. These volunteers work with our staff to efficiently capture the wishes of children. There are many hospitals and doctors who form an integral part of this chapter's network, all of whom play a crucial role in its operations.

Make-A-Wish India - Kolkata Chapter

The Kolkata chapter of the Make-A-Wish India grants an annual average of 600 wishes, predominantly to have, the chapter collaborates with renowned institutions and NGOs alike. But most of their impactful work goes beyond the regional boundaries, drawing wish kids from neighboring states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, and the northeastern states. Remarkably, the Kolkata chapter uniquely welcomes wish children crossing international borders from Bangladesh seeking treatment. Kolkata's advanced hospitals make it a hub for medical treatment in these areas. However, a notable challenge recounted by chapter members is connecting with these wish children, given the complexities of contacting non-Indian phone numbers. Despite this obstacle, the chapter remains unwavering in its commitment to making dreams come true for children, transcending geographical borders to provide hope and joy through its noble endeavors.
